Marquette ESL Resources
Raynor Memorial Library
Raynor Memorial Libraries has worked with the ESL Program and the writing center to create an "ESL Research Guide" to help students locate physical and online English language learning resources available in the library. More items are being added all the time. We will also be holding a special library orientation at the beginning of each semester to familiarize students with the library self-help resources.
The Ott Memorial Writing Center offers free one-to-one tutoring to all Marquette students, staff, and faculty on all kinds of writing projects. Most appointments last about 45 minutes to an hour. Bring a copy of the assignment, your notes, your ideas and a draft (if you have already written it) so that the tutors in the Writing Center can provide you with the best assistance. Call 288-5542 to schedule an appointment or visit the website. The Center is located in Raynor Library 240 and the hours are posted on their website.
The Ott Memorial Writing Center offers the SWELL (Speaking and Writing for English Language Learners) Program to support multilingual communicators at Marquette. The program is designed to give each student individual support with one of our trained tutors to help students improve their English communication skills with an option to focus on writing and/or speaking skills. Students meet with their tutor once a week for 30 minutes for a semester. If you are interested or have questions, contact Dr. Rebecca Nowacek.
Speech and Hearing Clinic
The Speech and Hearing Clinic offers free speech and hearing evaluations in addition to group and individual sessions for accent reduction for Marquette students. The clinic operates on a semester basis, including summer. It is located in Cramer Hall 104 and open Monday through Friday, 9am-5pm. Call the Clinic at 288-7426 for further information.

They also house the Office of Disability Services, which helps arrange accommodations for students with disabilities. For more information on their services, call 288-3270 or visit Coughlin Hall 145.

They also help students who are trying to determine their major or making career decisions. Call 288-7172 to make an appointment or visit the center at Holthusen Hall 204 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
International Friendship Program
The International Friendship Program matches Marquette’s new international students with Milwaukee community members. Students and their community friends meet once a month to learn about each others culture through social or family activities. It is a great way to practice speaking and listening skills.
International Student Peer Mentoring Program
The Peer Mentoring Program matches new international students with upper class Marquette students. The program is designed to help new students transition to life at Marquette but is also a wonderful opportunity to build on language skills.
