A university Victim Advocate is available to provide immediate, and ongoing support and assistance for survivors of sexual assault, relationship violence, stalking and/or sexual harassment. Advocates are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week and can be reached by calling out hotline 414-288-5244. Advocacy services is a confidential resource- which means any information that is shared with an advocate will not be disclosed to anyone without permission. Additionally, speaking with a Victim Advocate DOES NOT start a formal complaint or criminal complaint process. The Victim Advocate is trained to help students navigate options and services on campus and in the community.
If you or someone you know has experienced relationship or sexual violence, we are here to help. We are here to listen, support, and provide you with resources and options—you do not have to face the situation alone! Advocacy Services offers a number of services including education and training, information and referral, crisis intervention, and advocacy for survivors of gender-based violence.
A Victim Advocate can provide our student survivors with:
- Confidential support to survivors of sexual harassment, stalking, dating violence or sexual violence, whether the abuse occured recently or in the past.
- Referrals to university and off campus community support, and counseling services.
- 24 hours of immediate response coverage for information, referrals and advocacy.
- An in-person response to Aurora Sinai Memorial Hospital or Marquette University Police Department to provide emotional support and guidance.
- Assistance with housing, academic and other concerns.
- Navigating physical and emotional safety. Including assistance in creating a safety plan, information on and assistance with filing protection orders, such as a university Stay Away Directive or a restraining order.
- Information about the university’s Title IX policy, reporting and complaint process along with accompagniment to any meetings or hearings.
- Information about, and assistance with filing a criminal complaint with the police or taking other legal action.
- Assistance and support throughout the criminal justice or university complaint process including escorts to all necessary appointments and court proceedings.
