Tutoring Expertise and Passion

My name is Isabel. The pronouns I prefer to use are she/her/hers. I graduated in Spring of 2021 with my B.S. in Exercise Physiology from Marquette. I am now in the graduate phase of the Doctor of Physical Therapy and Master’s in Athletic Training programs respectively. Some of my favorite authors include Marina Keegan, Megan Mayhew Bergman, and Mary Kubica. I enjoy writing scripts and plays including dramas, as well as sketch comedy. I am happy to work on any assignment no matter the genre or stage of writing. I enjoy pushing my writers to expand their comfort zone, and become more confident in their own writing.

Statement of Philosophy

As a tutor at the Ott, I am to work collaboratively with each writer that comes to meet with me. I want to address their concerns, as well as helping them grow as a writer in a wider scope. I aim to cater to each writer’s needs. Not only do I want to help them improve, I want to learn from them so that I can grow and become a better tutor and a better person. Writing and tutoring do not solely apply to single assignments or even simply writing. It can apply to all areas of academia as well as professional settings. Not only that, but I want each writer to become more confident in their writing as well as their ideas. My favorite part about tutoring is meeting different individuals with different learning interests than my own, because they can introduce me to topics and areas of study that I have no prior knowledge of.

Goals

  • I want to challenge myself to become a better tutor through talking with experienced tutors in the Ott.

  • I want to learn from my fellow Otters and Writers about cultural differences, so that I can grow as an empathetic person.

  • Remain open minded and positive when communicating with writers so that I can best help them to learn and grow as writers.
