With the stroke of a pen, or the clack of fingers against a keyboard, an individual philosophy enters the world. Essays are intimate, a dialogic interplay between writer and audience; each word becomes personal, meaningful, and necessary. I believe every piece, regardless of prompt, has the possibility to become course transcendent. Scientists can become poets. Journalists can become anthropologists. All students can become worldly scholars. As an avid reader and writer, I have an immense responsibility to nurture a love for my craft. While writing in college may be an anxiety provoking process, I am here at the Ott to guide students through their assignments with empathy, passion, and trust. It is my hope this space may become a realm of language exploration. Although not every essay feels significant, and not every student professes an unyielding adoration for writing, I aim to help make their work the best it can possibly be. I believe this goal is achievable, and I take pride in this diverse, comfortable environment.
