Career Assessments are helpful tools that can be used to heighten awareness of one's preferences and interests that may be related to major and career selection. If you have questioned your career plans or your academic major, a career assessment can be a good place to start. Assessments should not be mistaken for tests. They do not produce right or wrong answers but rather a starting point for exploration.

You can learn about each career while adding favorites to your profile. You can also dive into the ways you'd contribute to a team, how you approach work, and brain games to discover your unique qualities.

The Career Center offers skilled interpretation of formal career assessments. Coming in for assistance by first scheduling an appointment ensures an opportunity to talk through your assessment options, review your results with guidance, and discuss any discrepancies, new discoveries, and next steps. 

• Myers-Briggs Type Indicator
  The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a personality inventory used to increase self-awareness of ones preferences and to help individuals understand and appreciate the differences of others. The MBTI measures preferences in four different areas and produces a personality type for each individual. It assists in career decision-making by providing information about what personality types are most often represented in different career fields
• Strong Interest Inventory
  The Strong Interest Inventory (SII) is an interest inventory used to measure interests in a broad range of occupations, work activities, leisure activities, and school subjects. The SII provides a comparison of ones interests with people working in different occupations who are satisfied with their career choices. It increases self-awareness by suggesting particular environments in which individuals might like to learn and work, as well as particular types of tasks and activities one might find satisfying.'

Informal Assessments Online 

Informal assessments do not require you to come into the Career Center for an interpretation and can be taken at your leisure. They can be a good starting point for exploration.

  • Explore possibilities in the humanities and social sciences under "Resources" and "Job Family Resources."

  • Undergraduate seniors considering a future with a PhD might benefit from previewing the "Job Family Resources" too.

  The My Next Move tool is a web-based interactive tool for students, new job seekers, and other career explorers used to learn more about various career options. My Next Move provides three different options:
  • Search careers using keywords
  • Browse careers by industry
  • Take the O*Net Interest Profiler (The O*Net Interest Profiler is a tool that offers customized career suggestions based on a person's interests and level of education and work experience.)
  • The My Next Move tool is connected to the O*Net OnLine website which houses detailed descriptions and other occupational information of over 900 different careers.

  CareerExplorer by Sokanu is a career matching platform that helps people find their ideal career. CareerExplorer accomplishes this in two ways. The first is through the world’s best career test — a prediction engine built from the ground up using the latest innovations in psychometrics and machine learning. The second is through CareerExplorer's 750 career profiles, containing thousands of pieces of unique content aimed at helping people understand and enter careers.
