Continuing Resources Librarian

Position Overview

 
The Raynor Library at Marquette University seeks a forward thinking, collaborative, and enthusiastic professional for the position of Continuing Resources Librarian. A leading force for sustainable scholarly access and resource management at Marquette, the Continuing Resource Librarian oversees renewals, supports vendor licensing negotiations, advances open and transformative access, tracks key statistics, and applies data-informed strategies to achieve cost-efficient access to continuing resources.

This participating faculty position reports to the Associate Dean of Collection Services and works closely with colleagues in the Cataloging and Metadata and Acquisitions units. It is a participating faculty position.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as the initial contact for resource renewals and vendor license negotiations.
  • Work with vendors to address concerns, resolve issues, and troubleshoot technical problems.
  • Manage workflows, documentation, and recordkeeping in collaboration with other Collection Services units to ensure reliable campus access to needed continuing resources
  • Oversee the collection and analysis of continuing resource usage statistics.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across library units to synthesize eResource license and usage analysis to inform local collection decisions and assessment projects.
  • Monitor trends in academic libraries and scholarly publishing and advise on initiatives to improve local practices.
  • Improve user access to eResources by removing barriers in license and access models.
  • Track and assess collections spending in collaboration with library colleagues.
  • Participate in library initiatives, special projects, committees, and meetings as appropriate.
  • Maintain flexibility and awareness of changes in the department and organization and contribute to the team effort by assuming other similar duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Engage in professional development and contribute to the library profession.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • ALA-accredited master’s degree in library or information science.
  • Two years of experience in library/vendor relations, license negotiation, or similar work in academic, research, or special libraries.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
  • Knowledge and experience with electronic resources technical standards such as COUNTER, KBART, and SUSHI.
  • Familiarity with reviewing and interpreting budget and spending information to facilitate data driven negotiations with suppliers.
  • Demonstrated skills in collecting, analyzing, and presenting library data to inform decision making.
  • Ability to adapt to a changing information landscape, manage competing priorities, and tolerance for ambiguity.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with a diverse range of individuals and groups.
  • Superior interpersonal, communication, and writing skills.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Skilled in interpreting eResource licenses and ensuring vendor compliance with accessibility standards.
  • Experience with transformative or read & publish agreements including S2O (Subscribe to Open).
  • Experience working with large-scale serials renewals processes, both internally and with serials agencies/vendors.
  • Experience with integrated library systems, preferably ExLibris’ Alma.
  • Ability to develop and manage efficient workflows/processes in support of strategic goals.
  • Demonstrated project management experience.
  • Commitment to the library profession as evidenced by presentations, publications, or other contributions.
