What is mechanical engineering?

Mechanical engineering is the branch of engineering that deals with the analysis, design, manufacture and improvement of machines. Mechanical engineers conceive, plan, design and direct the manufacture, distribution and operation of a wide variety of devices, machines and systems for energy conversion, environmental control, materials processing, transportation, materials handling and other purposes.

Although it is one of the oldest and broadest disciplines of engineering, mechanical engineering constantly adapts to new advances in technology.
