Assistant Professor
Theology Department (Systematic Theology)
John D. Steichen joined Marquette’s Department of Theology in 2026, after completing his Ph.D. in systematic theology at Boston College. His dissertation, titled “Looking for Salvation in a Secular Age: Fundamental Theology and the Question of God,” drew on Bernard Lonergan, René Girard, and others to argue that the question of God is implicit in all human questioning. Before turning to theology, he earned his B.A. and M.A. in philosophy, also at Boston College. His research interests include Lonergan studies, mimetic theory, systematic and fundamental theology, contemplative theology, atheism, and continental philosophy.
