Retreat Leaders

Campus Ministry retreat leaders choose to take an active role in sharing their faith as they build a faith community on Marquette’s campus. Building on a foundation of servant leadership, retreat leaders work with a student director and campus ministry staff member to create an open and welcoming space so their peers might have an experience of God.

Retreat leaders come from different faith traditions and leadership backgrounds, and all are at different points in their faith journeys. There is no one “type” of retreat leader. Anyone who has attended a Campus Ministry retreat and feels called to accompany others along their faith journey is welcome to apply.

Retreat leaders regularly say that leading a retreat helped them grow in faith, meet new friends, increase their sense of servant leadership, and experience the satisfaction of working for the sake of others and seeing that work to completion. Student directors talk about the challenge and fun of leading their peers in bringing a retreat from idea to reality, and of helping to guide the retreat program as a whole. If those kinds of experiences appeal to you, then serving as a retreat leader or student director will likely be a great fit.

2020-2021 Retreat Leader Commitments

Retreat Leaders commit to:

  • Attend a prayer for the retreat leader community Tuesdays 7:00 to 7:30 of the semester of the retreat.
  • Attend planning meetings Tuesday evenings 7:30 to 9:00 in the 8 weeks preceding their retreat.
  • Grow in spirituality and relationship with God; this takes time and commitment.
  • Attend Campus Ministry Leadership Retreat on September 11-13, 2020.
  • Support all Campus Ministry retreats.
  • Follow all expectations and policies for Campus Ministry and the retreat program as listed on the retreats policy page.

Note: Camina Conmigo retreat leaders will begin weekly planning at a mutually agreeable time in April 2020. They will continue meeting in the fall during the usual Tuesday night 7:30-9:00 pm time, and will attend Tuesday night prayer during the fall 2020 semester.

2020 Ignatian Leadership Retreat (ILR) Leader Commitments

ILR Leaders commit to:

  • Living locally by August 13, 2020.
  • Attend all meetings prior to the retreat. Tentative meeting dates/times will be:
    • Friday, August 14, 1-5 pm
    • Monday, August 17, 1-5 pm
    • Wednesday, August 19, 1-5 pm
    • Friday, August 21, 1-5 pm
  • Be available for the retreat itself on Monday, August 24 – Wednesday, August 26.
  • Grow in spirituality and relationship with God; this takes time and commitment.
  • Support all Campus Ministry retreats.
  • Follow all expectations and policies for Campus Ministry and the retreat program as listed on the retreats policy page.

Note: You may apply for ILR, for a school-year retreat, or for both. The application is the same for all retreats, but please make your preference clear in your answers.

2020-2021 Student Director Commitments

Student Directors commit to:

  • Attend a prayer for the retreat leader community Tuesdays 7:00 to 7:30 each week for the full academic year.
  • Attend planning meetings Tuesday evenings 7:30 to 9:00 in the 8 weeks preceding their retreat.
  • Attend a monthly retreat council meeting.
  • Meet weekly with retreat staff member during the 8 weeks preceding retreat to plan team formation and meetings.
  • Facilitate retreat team meetings, organize communication with retreat team, and assist in retreat team formation.
  • Grow in spirituality and relationship with God; this takes time and commitment.
  • Attend Campus Ministry Leadership Retreat on September 11-13, 2020.
  • Support all Campus Ministry retreats.
  • Follow all expectations and policies for Campus Ministry and the retreat program as listed on the retreats policy page.

Retreat Program Timeline

The timeline for Retreat Leader selection in 2020 is:

  • March 18: Retreat leader applications open via Campus Ministry website
  • April 7: Retreat leader applications close
  • April 1-16: Interviews for retreat leader candidates
  • April 22: Retreat leaders notified

Applications

Retreat leader applications are now closed. Retreat applications for the 2021-2022 school year will open in March 2021. If you feel called to lead a retreat earlier than that, please contact Sara Knuston, as retreat leader positions occasionally open up midyear.
