Clinical Associate Professor

Emily Mazzulla, Ph.D., is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, Director of the Center for Psychological Services at Marquette University, Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at Marquette University, and Chief Trauma and Resilience Psychologist at Scaling Wellness in Milwaukee (SWIM).  Dr. Mazzulla’s clinical and research interests center on trauma and resilience.  She is involved in program development, provision of evidence-based mental health intervention, clinical service, research, and training. Her work with re-settled refugees and survivors of torture led to the development of a new, non-pathologizing conceptualization of traumatic stress, the Chronic Traumatic Stress Framework. Dr. Mazzulla’s work underscores the imperative role of culture in the development, maintenance and treatment of mental health symptomatology and in effectively and compassionately working with refugees and survivors of torture.  In addition to numerous peer reviewed contributions to the scientific literature, Dr. Mazzulla is the author of “School in the time of the coronavirus”, a children’s book geared towards building resilience in children during the pandemic.  Dr. Mazzulla lives in Milwaukee, WI with her husband and three children.
