Magis Awards for Leadership 2020

Magis Award recipients are students, nominated by staff, who have demonstrated the concept of magis in some way (i.e. doing more for Christ, doing more for others, “the more universal good”). Magis should be thought of as depth and not necessarily quantity of engagements. A student who receives a Magis award is someone who has demonstrated exceptional leadership, excellence, dedication and commitment above and beyond the requirements of a paid or appointed role. These awards are selected by a a committee comprised of staff across Student Affairs and Campus Ministry and announced at the awards ceremony.

Freshman Magis Award: Christian Schwartz

Christian Schwartz is a freshman in the College of Engineering, majoring in Computer Engineering. He is currently a part of Inner Varsity, CRU, and Freshman Engineering Student Council. He serves on the welcomingteam for CRU. He is the Vice President of Marketing for FECE. Christian also works forRecreational Sports as a Service Staff and Building Supervisor in training. Christian also has the opportunity to work at St. Vincent DePaul church through Midnight Run.

Sophomore Magis Award: Hunter D'Acquisto

Hunter D’Acquisto is a sophomore majoring inBiomedical Sciences while completing pre-medicalrequirements. He is a Resident Assistant in Mashuda Hall, on the RA advisory board, a former member of the Residence Hall Association, and a current member of the National Residence Hall Honorary. Hunter has volunteered with Midnight Run, as a translator for Marquette Dental Clinic- South, and is currentlyvolunteering at BESTD Clinic. Outside of Marquette, Hunter is a Certified Nursing Assistant in the Resource Pool at Froedtert Hospital where he is a preceptor, skin care champion, Epic super user, a Global Health Committee member, a Diversity and Inclusion Advocate with the LGBTQ Business Resource Group, and a Recognition Pathway Recipient.

Junior Magis Award: Adán Jiménez

Adán Jiménez is a junior studying Finance and Business Economics in the College of Business. He is an analyst in the Applied Investment Management program, where students manage a portfolio of over $3 million of Marquette’s endowment in stock and bond markets. Adán works at the Center for Peacemaking as a Research Assistant for thePromoting Assets Reducing Crime (PARC) team, where he works closely with community leaders to assess and foster commercial development in the Near West Side of Milwaukee. He is also the President of the Latin American Student Organization (LASO), an organization that has grown quickly under his leadership and serves a very important role as a community anchor among manyLatinx students at Marquette.

Senior Magis Award: Kaitlin Johnstone

Kaitlin Johnstone is a senior pre-law student in the College of Arts & Sciences triple majoring inSociology, Health, Law, & Advocacy, and Political Science. In the 2019/2020 school year, she serves as the Vice President of the Pre-Law Society and is the Co-Founder and President of the Minority Scholars Mentoring Program (MSMP) at Marquette. MSMP is a student run organization that pairsupperclass minority students with underclass minority students in the same academic college/major to help encourage academic success and minority networking. The purpose of this organization is to help minority students of all years work toward their post graduate plans throughout their years in college. After less than one year, the program has over 75 participants.
