Welcome to the Department of Social and Cultural Sciences at Marquette. We are a multidisciplinary department with faculty trained in anthropology, criminology, criminal justice, law, social work and sociology.

Dr. Heather Hlavka’s interview on Slate relates her research on teens and sexual violence to the Kavanaugh case.
Dr. Michael McCarthy’s book Dismantling Solidarity: Capitalist Politics and American Pensions since the New Deal won both the Paul Sweezy Best Book Award from the American Sociological Association and an Honorable Mention for the Distinguished Book Award from the American Sociological Association’s Section on Labor and Labor Movements.
