Student researchers present at conferenceMILWAUKEE – The Marquette University Center for Peacemaking is pleased to announce that the Frankel Family Foundation has made a $135,000 gift to establish the Bud Frankel Memorial Endowed Fund. “Because of this gift, graduate students will use their Marquette education to create more equitable communities where indignities and injustices are addressed rather than managed,” said Patrick Kennelly, director of the Center for Peacemaking.

The fund is named after Bud Frankel, founder of the former Chicago sales promotion and marketing agency, Frankel & Co., who passed away on May 14, 2019. Bud was a longtime supporter of the Center for Peacemaking from its inception in 2008. He believed strongly in the principles that launched the Center, “The power of nonviolence through research and action for the promotion of peace, human dignity, and justice." In addition to being a businessman, he had a steadfast belief that “we are put on this earth to make life better for others.”

Beginning in the 2020-2021 school year, the fund will support an annual 12-month graduate student fellowship to address pressing social problems. In addition to research, Frankel Fellows will work with local organizations on social action projects.

Aligned with Bud’s constant championing of others, Frankel Fellows will receive mentoring to support their personal and professional development. The Marquette University Center for Peacemaking is honored to preserve Bud Frankel’s legacy and looks forward to working with the future Frankel Fellow recipients.
