Marquette is consistently a U.S. News & World Report top 100 national university. The Wall Street Journal and The Princeton Review also rank us on their lists, including a ranking as the best Wisconsin college for student outcomes.
Marquette is not a large state school, nor are we a small private school — we are somewhere in the middle in a really good way! With about 8,000 undergraduates and 3,000 graduate students, we’re big enough to offer lots of opportunities but small enough that students don’t feel lost in the crowd.
We’re a student-first university. That means we strive to make sure each student thrives here from their first day on campus to their first destination after graduation. All our academic resources are in one central location, for example, and we have unique opportunities for those who want a challenge and touchpoints to catch students who might need more support.
Here, you’ll be known and valued by your professors. They’re passionate about their subject matter and enthusiastic about their teaching. They will partner with you on a research project and connect you with professionals in your industry. And, by the way, Marquette's undergraduate teaching is consistently ranked in the top 10% by U.S. News & World Report.
Marquette has been a part of the Milwaukee community since 1881, and we continue to celebrate our place in this thriving city we call home. Milwaukee is beyond a great place to learn — it’s a great place to live.
Marquette lands on many “Best Value” lists year after year. But there’s more to a Marquette education beyond our lasting return on your investment. Grounded by our Catholic, Jesuit values, we measure success by the hearts and minds of our students — women and men for and with others, who go into the world ready to Be The Difference. We are open to all who are called to this mission.
Don’t just know, do! Our curriculum is packed with hands-on learning to get you prepped for a purposeful career. We do more than encourage internships and co-ops — we help you get them. And undergraduate research with a faculty member is a real possibility here when it’s limited to grad students elsewhere.

We Are Marquette! And once you’re a part of our family of over 115,000 graduates, we look out for you. Our Marquette Mentors program is just one example. Hundreds of enthusiastic, successful alumni come back year after year to mentor eager undergraduates looking for professional guidance and a leg up after graduation.
