One floor of Eckstein Tower (The Commons) isreserved for up to 40 incoming engineering students - both male and female - to foster a community of academic and social support within the Opus College of Engineering. The Commons are the newest on-campus residence halls; the facility also houses the largest on-campus dining hall.
Eckstein Tower houses approximately 400 freshman and sophomore students in mix of single and double rooms. Rooms are co-ed by door. Floors feature study lounges and communal bathrooms. The Commons have 24-7 security, in-hall professional staff (Hall Directors, Hall Ministers), and student staff (Resident Assistants, Desk Receptionists). The Commons also feature laundry facilities, mail operations, classroom/study space, lounges, chapel facilities, and the campus's newest dining hall.
Engineering LLC Academics
The Opus College of Engineering partners with the Office of Residence Life to provide academic peer mentoring with upperclassmen students, academic success workshops, and programming to support students in their first year in the College of Engineering. Peer mentors are assigned to each Engineering LLC floor in Eckstein Tower. Students are typically enrolled in similar classes and support one another academically and socially.
The Commons are located approximately 1 block from the two primary engineering facilities on campus: the state-of-the-art Engineering Hall and the historic Haggerty Hall / Olin Center.
