Diederich 101: our alumni newsletter

Our latest episode is here

Dear alumni and friends of the College:

I'm writing to you at the beginning of yet another academic year in the Diederich College of Communication. I am excited for what the months ahead of us will bring!

One of the things the Diederich College prides itself on is personalized, hands-on engagement. Not only do our students learn by doing, but they also learn while working with subject matter experts who have decades of experience in their fields. The Carl Collective, our college’s student-powered marketing and communication firm, is one such example. Upper-level strategic communication students learn from industry professionals, honing their craft by doing real work for real clients.

Over the past few years, our Carl Collective students have done incredible work, ranging from a full communication campaign for FlexRide Milwaukee, a city of Milwaukee transit service, to product designfor the commemorative “Beer Can” Marquette beer. This is work that gets seen by thousands of people, gets added to job portfolios, and forms the foundation of careers. It’s rare for students to have this kind of direct impact on the outcome of a professional project, and it sets them apart when it’s time to apply for jobs.

We are able to offer these opportunities thanks to the vision and generosity of Angelo Trozzolo, Comm ‘97. His firm, the Trozzolo Communications Group, has played an instrumental role in creating these opportunities for our students. It’s a testament to what can be achieved when we work together with our alumni. I’m confident we have many years of exciting collaboration ahead!

Thank you all for your support of our college and our students. Hope you’re having a wonderful start to your fall.

Sincerely,

Dr. Sarah Feldner
Dean, Diederich College of Communication
