As the news director at WUWM, I lead a staff of five full-time news reporters and anchors. Under my leadership, the staff has won the largest number of awards ever — 25 in total. These awards came from: Associated Press, Radio/Television News Directors Association, Northwestern Broadcast News Association, Wisconsin Broadcaster's Association, and Milwaukee Press Club.

Awards for Marquette Student Media
In the 2015-2016 academic year, Marquette University Student Media (the Marquette Wire), won the most video and audio journalism awards ever — 17 in total — from a variety of entities, including: Society of Professional Journalists. Midwest Broadcast ?Journalists Association, Wisconsin Broadcasters Association and Milwaukee Press Club. These were in addition to other journalist writing and photography awards, including: Best Student Magazine, Best All-Around Non Daily Student Newspaper, Break News, General News, Sports Reporting, In-Depth Reporting, Editorial Writing, Sports Photography , as well as several other awards. I had the privilege of overseeing the Marquette Wire during the 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 academic years in an interim Student Media Director role.

Panels

Panelist at the Broadcast Education Association in Las Vegas 2007. Discussed “Learning Sportscasting by Doing: The Students’ Perspectives” as part of a panel focusing on “Creating Practical Sports Casting Experiences for Students.” Shared student sports casting opportunities at MUTV and MU Radio, which range from anchoring sports and sport-talk shows to play-by-play and color for basketball, soccer and volleyball.

Panelist at the Broadcast Education Association meeting in Las Vegas in 2003. Discussed the ‘Perennial Production Pitfalls and How to Avoid Them.’ Shared some of the MUTV Client Production Department experiences, and focused on a video the students produced for the United States Mint.

Why Marquette

Have you ever walked into an environment and felt completely at ease, like you belong there? That’s about the best way I can describe why I’m here. It’s a welcoming environment with friendly faculty, staff and students. It also has excellent broadcasting facilities, and students can handle the equipment their first semester here. Freshmen can be on the air or behind-the-scenes at the student-run radio and TV stations. They get a chance to see if this is a career they’d truly enjoy.
