Rev. Thaddeus J. Burch, S.J. Scholarship

Provides merit- and need-based scholarships for students in all graduate programs.

Amounts: Amounts vary depending upon fund availability.

Catholic Schools Personnel Scholarship

The Catholic Schools Personnel Scholarship (CSPS) provides tuition scholarships for students who are employed by the Archdiocese of Milwaukee.

Amounts: Pays two-thirds of tuition charges up to six credits per term.*
*EDPL Superintendent Certificate Program is not eligible.

Eligible Programs: Any non-doctoral graduate program.

Requirements and Restrictions: Applicants must be employed by schools in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, or by the Archdiocese main office as teachers, administrators, or other professionals. The Archdiocese of Milwaukee includes schools in the following Wisconsin counties: Dodge, Fond du Lac, Kenosha, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Sheboygan, Walworth, Washington and Waukesha. Awards for non-degree students are permitted for two terms. Students must be admitted by the application deadline of the competition for which they are applying. Applicants in programs other than education will be asked to provide statements by their principals explaining how their graduate programs will benefit education in the Archdiocese schools.

Application Process and Deadlines: The deadline for fall is June 15, the deadline for spring is November 15, and the deadline for summer is April 15.

Richard W. Jobling Fellowship

The Richard W. Jobling Distinguished Research Assistantship is made possible through a generous donation to Marquette University in support of graduate students in the sciences. Students enrolled in, or admitted to Ph.D. programs for NSF-defined STEM disciplines will be eligible. Johnson Wax Research Fellowship

Provides financial assistance in the form of research fellowships for doctoral students. Award offers a stipend.

Amounts: Stipend of approximately $5,500. Amounts vary depending upon fund availability.

Eligible Programs: The award rotates among five departments:

  • Biological Sciences
  • Electrical and Computer Engineering
  • Biomedical Engineering
  • Mechanical and Industrial Engineering
  • Chemistry

Requirements and Restrictions: Students must be admitted to a doctoral program.

Application Process and Deadlines: Nominations are made to the Graduate School by the appropriate department. Interested students should contact their department no later than February 15 for fall consideration.

Leslie G. and Cecile C. Matthews Scholarship

Scholarships to students in all graduate programs who demonstrate financial need.

Amounts: Amounts vary depending upon fund availability from 1-9 credits per semester.

Eligible Programs: All graduate programs.

Application Process and Deadlines: Students should contact their departments to apply. The various graduate programs then make recommendations to the Graduate School on behalf of the students.

Milwaukee Area Teachers Scholarship

The Milwaukee Area Teachers Scholarships (MATS) offers financial assistance in the form of one-half tuition scholarships for three credits per term.

Amounts: Pays for one-half of a three-credit course, or 1.5 credits.

Eligible Programs: All graduate programs.

Requirements and Restrictions: Applicants must be employed as elementary or secondary teachers in either public or private schools in the Milwaukee area. Applicants may be non-degree and/or have less than full-time status to qualify for the MATS. Individuals working as teachers in the following 10 Wisconsin counties are eligible to apply: Dodge, Fond du Lac, Kenosha, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Sheboygan, Walworth, Washington, Waukesha.

Application Process and Deadlines: Request a paper application from the Graduate School or apply online and submit by the deadline. Deadline for fall semester is February 15, spring semester is November 15, summer session is April 15.

Marquette University Women's Club Fellowship

Provides financial assistance in the form of a stipend.

Amounts: Stipend in the range of $3,000 to $4,000.

Eligible Programs: The Graduate School selects a different graduate program each year for the fellowship.

Requirements and Restrictions: Student must have received their baccalaureate degree from Marquette University.

Application Process and Deadlines: The individual graduate programs make nominations to the Graduate School.

Paul A. Ketterer Scholarship

Tuition scholarships to students who also qualify for the Catholic Schools Personnel Scholarship (CSPS) program, i.e., who are admitted to master’s programs, and who are employed in an Archdiocese of Milwaukee school as either a teacher or administrator. The award provides fall and spring awards for up to 5 years.

Amounts: Amounts vary depending upon fund availability.

Eligible Programs: All master’s programs.

Application Process and Deadlines: Submit the CSPS application by June 15 for fall semester consideration, and by November 15 for spring semester consideration. Applicants for the CSPS award will be notified if they qualify for and will receive the Paul A. Ketterer Scholarship.

Reverend John P. Raynor, S.J. Fellowship

The Raynor Fellowships are funded by an endowment created by members of the President’s Council. As a fitting tribute to Fr. Raynor, the donors specified that the fellowships be awarded to promising graduate students to engage in advanced study and research to prepare themselves for professional lives of service to their community and country. Charles O'Hara Scholarship

Financial support for graduate students to present their research at academic conferences.

Requirements and Restrictions: Students must receive a Graduate Student Research Travel Award to be considered for funding by the O'Hara Scholarship

Application Process and Deadlines: No formal application process. Qualified recipients will be selected by the Graduate School and notified. 

Arthur J. Schmitt Leadership Fellows Program

The Arthur J. Schmitt Scholarship Leadership Fellowship identifies talented Marquette doctoral students and fosters their development as socially responsible leaders in the Marquette community and beyond. 

Through the generous support of the Arthur J. Schmitt Foundation and the contributions of many individuals to this vision, for more than 50 years, 473 awards have funded 390 students in 15 doctoral programs. Earl W. Swokowski Fellowship in Mathematics

Provides financial assistance in the form of research assistantships for students in the Department of Mathematics, Statistics, and Computational Sciences.

Provides stipends for summer research support.

John J. Eisch Graduate Research Fellowship in Chemistry

Provides financial assistance in the form of research assistantships for students in the Department of Chemistry.

Amounts: Up to a full scholarship and stipend.  

Eligible Programs: Chemistry

Dennis J. O'Brien Fellowship

Provides financial assistance in the form of a summer stipend.

Amounts: $2,500, though amounts may vary depending upon fund availability.

Eligible Programs: Rotates annually between Biological Sciences and Chemistry.

Requirements and Restrictions: Students must be involved in summer study and research.

Milo F. Snyder Scholarship in Business

Offers tuition scholarships to finance majors in the MBA program.

Amounts: Amounts vary due to fund availability.

Eligible Programs: Master's in Business Administration.

Requirements and Restrictions: The full-time registration rule is waived for recipients of this award.

Application Process and Deadlines: The Graduate School of Management makes nominations to the Graduate School. Interested students should contact the director of graduate studies in the Graduate School of Management for information.

O'Sullivan Fellowship in Public Affairs Journalism

The Jeremiah L. O’Sullivan Fellowship in Public Affairs Journalism provides financial assistance in the form of a stipend and/or a tuition scholarship.

Eligible Program: Journalism.

Requirements and Restrictions: Students must be in the master's journalism program with a special emphasis in public affairs.

Schumack Memorial Journalism Fund

The Eugene J. Schumack Memorial Journalism Fund provides financial assistance in the form of a tuition scholarship.

Booz Scholarship in Neuropsychology

The Adelaide and Hubert Booz Scholarship in Neuropsychology provides financial assistance in the form of a tuition scholarship for graduate students in Counselor Education and Counseling Psychology who are taking courses in neuropsychology.

Eligible Programs: Ph.D. programs in the Department of Counselor Education and Counseling Psychology

Application Process: The faculty in the Department of Counselor Education and Counseling Psychology (CECP) make nominations to the Graduate School.

Janz Scholarship

The Patricia C. Janz scholarship provides need- and character-based scholarships for graduate students enrolled in the Department of Counselor Education and Counseling Psychology.

Eligible Programs: Master's and Ph.D. programs in the Dept. of Counselor Education and Counseling Psychology.

Resch Mental Health Initiative Scholarship

The Resch Mental Health Initiative, aimed at addressing the critical shortage of mental health professionals in Northeast Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan is made possible by a transformative gift from The Richard J. Resch Foundation to The Bellin Health Foundation. Scholarship awardees are expected to train and work in the counties in the Emplify Health by Bellin service area in Northeast Wisconsin. Engineering Students

Greater Milwaukee Foundation's Frank Rogers Bacon Research Assistantship

Provides financial assistance in the form of research assistantships for students in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

Amounts: Up to a full scholarship and stipend.  May also offer reimbursement for books or equipment needed for course work.

Eligible Programs: Electrical and Computer Engineering.

Geographical Requirements and Restrictions: Students must be admitted to either a master's or doctoral program.

Preference is given to students from Milwaukee, Waukesha, Washington or Ozaukee counties, then from other areas of Wisconsin. Not intended for students living in Wisconsin only to attend Marquette.

G. E. Marquette Medical Systems Scholarship

Provides financial assistance in the form of tuition scholarships for students in the Biomedical Engineering master’s program who are enrolled in medical imaging or bioinstrumentation courses.

Albert and Cecil Lue-Hing Engineering Scholarship

Provides financial assistance in the form of tuition scholarships to graduate students engineering.

Amounts: Varies. 

Maurice L. Madden Biomedical Engineering Fellowship

Offers financial assistance usually in the form of a stipend.

Amounts: Amounts vary depending upon fund availability. Recent amounts have been about $2,000 annually.

Eligible Program: Biomedical Engineering.

Application Process and Deadlines: The Department of Biomedical Engineering makes nominations to the Graduate School. 

Rutkauskas Scholarship

Offers a living stipend for graduate students in engineering.

Amounts: $5,000 award, but amount varies depending upon fund availability.

Eligible Programs: Biomedical engineering, civil engineering, electrical and computer engineering, mechanical engineering.

Application Process: Nominations are made to the Graduate School by the appropriate department. 

Research Leaders Fellowship

This competitive assistance package will support a student's first year of study. It allows outstanding students to pursue their first year of graduate study with no teaching or pre-existing research obligations.

Amounts: 21 tuition credits and a $20,000 stipend over 10 months.

Eligible Programs: One Fellow will be selected in each of the following departments each year:

Requirements and Restrictions: Fellowships are awarded on merit to incoming first year graduate students, with preference given to doctoral students. The selection process emphasizes superior academic record, demonstrated research experience, and potential for performing high quality independent research in his or her field. Each Fellow is expected to meet with department faculty members to select and begin a research project of common interest.

Application Process and Deadlines: All applicants to the graduate programs in engineering with be considered for this fellowship, provided that the application for admission and all required supporting documents are received by the Marquette University Graduate School no later than February 15 of the same year to which they are applying for Fall admission.

Father Henry Casper, S.J. Memorial Fellowship in History

Smith Family Fellowship

Cyril E. Smith (1900-1969) was a lifelong educator who came to Marquette University in 1934. In 1974, Dr. Smith honored Marquette graduate students in history and the humanities with the wonderful gift of a unique scholarship trust. Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa Graduate Education Award

Requirements and Restrictions: Applicants must be members of the Catholic Sisters of the Dominican Order of the Sinsinawa Province. Under special circumstances the Order may make funds available to non-member students.

Jesuit International Scholarship

Offers scholarships for tuition expenses to Jesuits from countries other than the United States.

Amounts: Awards typically range from 18-24 credits per year, though may vary depending upon fund availability.

Requirements and Restrictions: Awards are for degree students only and do not include living stipends. Students must provide proof of financial support for their living expenses before Marquette University can issue a visa.

John Braig Family Scholarship in Theology
