O'Brien Applications for Students

The O’Brien Fellowship is gearing up for another year of public service journalism projects! The O’Brien Fellowship is a one-of-a-kind program that selects professional journalists from newsrooms across the country to work on projects with Marquette students and is housed right out of the Diederich College of Communication in Johnston Hall, Room 102.

O’Brien student interns learn from and work with a professional journalist for an academic year. Oftentimes, students conduct research and aid in the production of content for the fellowship project, sometimes receiving bylines or public credit for their work on the project. Interested in applying for next year? If you are a rising junior, senior or graduate student, we strongly encourage you to apply.

Please submit the following materials to obrienfellows@marquette.edu no later than Friday, March 16:

  • A resume that includes your grade point average (GPA).
  • A one-page cover letter addressed to Dave Umhoefer, Director of the O'Brien Fellowship, that outlines your interest in the position, your career goals and your qualifications for the position.
  • 3 to 5 pieces of written or multi-media journalism (preferably published) or link to online portfolio/professional website.
  • The names and contact information for three references.
